Itinerary
This 3-day tour to Merzouga Sahara desert from Marrakech starts with a pickup from your accommodation at 8 AM by an air-conditioner and comfortable vehicle to drive you towards Ouarzazate, crossing the Atlas through Tizi’n’Tichka pass (2,260 meters). The mountains offer a big variety of landscapes and the view of several hamlets arranged as in an amphitheater. An essential track and outstanding landscape will take us to the village of Telouet to visit the Kasbah of el Glaoui and the village of Ait Ben Haddou to visit its famous Kasbah which is classified by the UNESCO as a world heritage. Then, our journey continues towards Ouarzazate, where you will have lunch and a visit to Taurirt Kasbah and the cinema studios. Next, we will head to Dades Gorges, crossing the palm valley of Skoura and visiting its Kasbahs. Then we go via Rose Valley to Kalaat Mgouna before we continue to Toudgha. Overnight and accommodation with dinner and breakfast in a guest house, riad, or hotel.
After breakfast in your accommodation, we will head to the Merzouga desert via Toudra Valley, we will visit the Gorges of Dades for some amazing photos of the great canyon, and then also visit the village of Todra, after exploring the Todra Gorges, arrive in Erfoud (city of fossils and dates), stop for lunch before continuing our journey towards the desert of Merzouga. crossing the village of Rissani visit the mausoleum of the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty of Morocco, Moulay Ali Cherif, which is located on the southern edge of town. Reaching Merzouga and camel trek for about 1 hour and a half to reach Erg Chebbi dunes, admire the most wonderful sunset over the dunes, enjoy music folklore at night under the stars in a Saharan desert camp, and spend an overnight with dinner and breakfast in a Saharan desert Beber tent situated at the feet of the dunes.
NB: If you book a luxury tour, then, you will have breakfast and shower at the desert camp, otherwise, the breakfast and the shower will be at the hotel after your camel rides back in the morning.
Early wake up in the morning to enjoy a spectacular sunrise over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and enjoy also a typical breakfast in a Berber tent, then ride camels back to the hotel in Merzouga village where you will meet your driver/guide for a new journey back to Marrakech. We drive to the vast palm grove of Tafilalet passing through the city of Rissani (the Alaouite dynasty and the capital of the ancient Sultan Alaouite), famous for its markets, which was the old trade center of the caravans coming from the southern Sahara of Africa and other from the north. After a short visit to the markets, we will head to Draa Valley, through the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the oasis of Tazarine and Nkob. Continue to reach Ouarzazate through the sublime Valley of Draa, the Berber village of Agdz, and the port of Ait Saoun (1660 meters altitude). Stop for lunch in a local restaurant in Ouarzazate, and then, continue our journey to Marrakech, crossing the high Atlas, Arrive in Marrakech in the evening around 6 or 7 PM, this desert tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation in Marrakech.
